Earthbound is one of the most successful games in japan but none of its sequels did very well, apparently.

The Mother series has been EXTREMELY successful in Japan, ever since the first one for the NES. Nintendo wound up translating Mother 1 into Earthbound, but never printed more than 1, and it was never released. Eventually, it was auctioned off, and the contents were dumped into a ROM. (The title screen was edited by the ROM dumper to include the word "ZERO" to prevent confusion)
Then, Mother 2 came out for SNES. It was extremely popular in Japan, and Nintendo decided to translate this one, and actually RELEASE it this time. Despite their extreme advertisement efforts, Earthbound sold very poorly in America. Probably due to it's simple graphics, in comparison to other SNES games of the time (such as Chrono Trigger)
As such, the remaining 2 Mother games (Mother 1+2 for GBA, and Mother 3) were never localized, despite how many people would buy them. Earthbound was excluded from the American SSBB masterpiece section, despite it's inclusion in the Japanese version. No Mother game was ever released in Europe.
Though Melee helped the Fire Emblem series make it out of Japan, so maybe Lucas in Brawl will help us get a Mother 3 DS port/translation thing (Like the Phoenix Wright games)
I can't believe I just typed all that out, instead of doing something simple like copying from Wikipedia..

Copying takes just as long due to the fact you have to edit out all the little boxed numbers and stuff. Interesting info there.

Welcome! I have good news! starmen.net/forum/?t=msg&th=46014Nintendo Power's VC Poll's results are in. NUMBER 1 MOST REQUESTED VC GAME: Earthbound. Awesome eh? And, NUMBER 4 is Mother! Isn't that awesome as well? I'd say this at least improves Earthbound/Mother's VC chances by a little.

Well....I was totally expecting a club about a hamser...but Earthbound works too. I would definately buy Earthbound if it were released on the Virtual Console! Earthbound was one of my most favorite games on the SNES and I could never get tired of playing it! Is Mother 3 actually out in Japan yet? I so hope that we get a version of it on the DS... Poor Happy......

I thought earthbound and mother was the same thing... Earthbound is Mother 2. Mother was never released over here, but Mother 2 (Earthbound) was. EDIT: I found the most AWESOME people ever.. They dress up like stuff from Earthbound, then go to a public place (Broadway At The Beach, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina) and hilarity ensues. mestephen.com/earthbound/video/My personal favorite is "A Bee I Am" because he dresses up like a bee, and quotes Buzz Buzz word for word to random people.

Oh wow, I didn't realize it had been out so long already lol.. Will the translation be a rom on the computer or something? Will we be able to put it on our DS cards? Cuz that would be awesome. It's a patch you apply to a Mother 3 GBA ROM. And our DS cards wouldn't play it, unless there's a GBA emulator that'll work on them.. EDIT: I found the most AWESOME people ever.. So its a happy happyist club, why is the name to do with earthbound? On the outskirts of the city Twoson is a valley known as Peaceful Rest Valley. There's a small village there, filled with cultists that paint everything blue. They call themselves the Happy Happyists. Blue, Blue..

And some say Cults are dark and evil.
Name one thing dark or evil with blue.
