The first game to be band in Britain in over a decade. gaming.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=9127The BBFC has refused to give this game a rating, which effectively means that the sale or distribution of such items is illegal. The game was tested by at least a dozen gamers while the Board reviewed the game. And was found to be unsuitable for even an 18 rating. The games new features caused some particular controversy. The opening level takes place in an asylum where the character must escape while murdering guards and fellow inmates. Also the "environmental kills" (where the player kills people using certain background items such as fuse boxes and toilets) and the ability to stab someone through the eye with a pen.

The topic post is abit misleading as many countries have also banned it. Or will ban it given that there censorship is even stronger then Britain. I just thought that since its the first game to banned in Britain since the early 90's was ait more of a topic opener. Given that it could give the anti gaming league a precedent for the removal of games.

ok, i can understand how shocked people would be but its a game, if the child or person develops an angry nature then its there fault not that game, its already happened too late trying to point blame after he/she develops it
and thats what games are supposed to be, giving people the chance to do some whacked up shit that wouldnt really happen, games were invented to be violent and viscious

Thats not why this was banned. The BBFC had recently published research which found that games like movies don't actually lead to real life violence. The reason this was banned was because it takes things to far according to the BBFC. Like Movies there is still guide lines on what is acceptable and what isn't. This has to do with the Standards of decency arguement not the "games brainwash children to be violent".

Also Jack Thompson took a swing at Rockstar games and Take-Two for this game. From wikipedia, this is the following:
"...After Rockstar's announcement of a sequel to manhunt, anti-violent video games activist Jack Thompson is suing Take Two to stop them from selling Manhunt 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV. Thompson plans to file the suit from March 19th and in his words he wants to "Prevent the sale of two hyperviolent video games set to be released this year and sold to anyone under 17 years of age."
In retaliation to Thompson's efforts, Take Two are now filing legal proceedings against Jack Thompson by petitioning to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida in which they seek to stop the game being declared a 'public nuisance' under Florida law. The claim states:
"Thompson has a history of making multiple threats of legal action, whether substantiated or not, both against (Take Two) as well as the retailers who purchase the video games and offer them for sale to the public. Thompson has made such threats again in connection with Manhunt 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV…"
Jack Thompson wanted to stop a Wendy's Kids Meal toys promotion that offers toys based on Wii titles because Manhunt 2 was scheduled for released on the Wii. The promotion is based on both the Mario and Excite Truck titles and is devoid of any Manhunt 2 reference. Stating "Dave Thomas never would have tolerated the use of Wendy’s good name to promote Nintendo’s Wii, not with this game available on the Wii platform." Thompson labels the Wii console as a 'kid-friendly' platform, although Scarface: The World is Yours, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, The Godfather: Blackhand Edition and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon are also marketed for the console. Nintendo claims their games "enjoy a wide variety of styles, genres, and ratings.""

Apparently Jack Thompson can't legally say anything about Manhunt 2 because the company stopped him or something like that, sorry I don't have more detailed information.

This could push the gaming boards to make a 21 rating level.

This could push the gaming boards to make a 21 rating level. No it won't. Things don't change unless theres a large amount of public support. Or a powerful pressuregroup campaigning for it. I think you'll find support for Manhunt 2 will be in short supply.

Do you live to kick me in the nuts, every post I make... To protect your nuts try using your head rather than buying an expensive and large cup for such a tiny package. And I'd support it. And I think alot of manhunt fans will support it, and gorehounds. I doubt it. As if there actually was a link to videogames and violence you can bet manhunt would be the nexus of it. For that reason alone the press will be negative. Besides many people who plays these games are actually to young for the 18 certificate. Which means they'll be doing more harm ten good by actually announcing there presence. Not only to the cause but to there families and video gaming as a whole.

Well its the parents fault for not looking into the games the little fucktards buy. I wouldnt let my child, god forbid if I ever had one, play uber violent video games unless I approve.
I'd let him play turok and godfather, but nothing brutal like hitman and stuff.

Well its the parents fault for not looking into the games the little fucktards buy. I wouldnt let my child, god forbid if I ever had one, play uber violent video games unless I approve.. No offense but judging by your posting in this forum i would say its a pretty safe bet that you yourself are one of these "Little fucktards" also this is an issue about standards of decency in media. Everything from books to movies have to meet certain criteria to get a certificate. I see no reason why games should be any different. If anything this is what many pro gamers have longed for. For videogames to be taken seriously asn art form for adults. The only problem is whether or no the ban sets a precident for future bannings. I'd let him play turok and godfather, but nothing brutal like hitman and stuff. Look the BBFC work for the Government. What the Government says goes. If it says only available for 18 or over then it is for 18 or over. No discussion No appeals No exceptions. Also how the hell do you get off blaming parents then saying you'd let your kids(you kids who the hell are you kidding?) play whatever they wan't. The only way to get a change is to campaign to change the guidelines on what is and isn't possible. yet i don't believe for a second there will be one over Manhunt 2. Its not just the Daily Mail(white supremicists who incidently supported Hitler) and ITV(worthless sensationalist rubbish pretending to be news) its all of the press. Even Gamers will be hard pressed to come up with somthing other then its "not real" which to my mind hasn't worked ever in any media form.

Wow RedGlare thats like 3 times you've zinged Matt Sama, well even if someone lives in an area where they sell the game it would probably be hard to get considering the low stock.
