Just so everyone knows I did not write this. I found it on the offical Nintendo website here it is:
The Wii Launch: What You Should Know
Hey everyone, and welcome to another edition of “What You Should Know”! The Wii launch is upon us, and I have all of the information you need! If you were here when I did this during E3, you know this topic will be active. Updates will be added constantly, and there be plenty of ways for everyone to get involved, including the return of my Daily Questions. Let’s get started with the information!
Note: Please check through the topic to see if I have answered a question of yours. I may have not put it on the front page yet. Don't be afraid to PM me with a question.
"When will the Wii release?”
The Wii release date is November 19 in North America, December 2 in Japan, December 7 in Australia, and December 8 in Europe. As promised by Satoru Iwata, all of the launches are taking place within a three week period, and before Thanksgiving as well as under $250 in North America.
“How much will the Wii cost?”
The Wii will cost $249 US ($279 CDN) in North America, which includes a copy of Nintendo’s Wii Sports (boxing, bowling, baseball, golf, and tennis). It will cost about $219 in Japan, but that doesn’t include Wii Sports.
"What will the Wii (in North America) come with?"
With the Wii in North America, you'll get:
-the system (only in white at launch)
-one Wii remote
-one nunchuck
-copy of Wii Sports
-sensor bar and stand
-all the necessary cables
-an AC adapter
-two AA batteries
-and manuals and a pretty box
From what we know, Virtual Console points and a classic controller are not included with any region, but I have heard that Virtual Console points will be given out with purchases of the Classic Controller in Japan.
“How much will the accessories cost?”
The remote will cost $40, the nunchuck will cost $20, and the classic controller will be $20.
“How will the virtual console work?”
Nintendo announces that 30 games will be available by the end of the year in North America, and starting January 2007, 10 games or more should be added each month. Games will be purchased with points, and will cost about $10, $8, and $5 for N64, SNES, and NES games, respectively. They can be played with the classic controller, which is available at launch for $20.
“How do I go about preordering?”
This seems to be a tricky case depending on the retailer. Some stories such as Toys R' Us are already taking preorders, but in my personal opinion, that may not be safe because they don't know how many systems they will get yet which could cause some problems around launch time.
The forums are buzzing with EB Games/Gamestop rumors, but the most logical one to me sounds like the one where EB Games and Gamestop managers, as well as managers from other stores are going to be going to a Wii launch conference where they will find out the information about launch allocations. I have confirmed this with my local EB. That might be your best bet.
Note: Depending on your store, this may not be true. The manager's conference is apparently is coming up before the end of September, so preorders should start after that. Asking around looks to be the best choice.
More: PUGS1 writes to say that FYE stores are accepting preorders. Please PM me if you have any other preorder information
"How many consoles will be available?"
Nintendo has announced that 4 million Wiis will be shipped worldwide by the end of this year. That's a pretty large statistic, but it's important to note that the number has to be divided among North America, Japan, Europe, Australia, etc. I would guess that North America will have the most consoles, followed closely by Japan, then Europe and Australia further. There's definitely going to be demand for the Wii, so preordering is probably necessary.
North America will have 1 million Wiis at launch.
"Can I play Wii before launch?"
Yes! You can try out the Wii at the Nintendo Fusion Tour this year before launch! Titles possibly playable at your stop include Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Wii Sports, Excite Truck, WarioWare: Smooth Moves (all Nintendo), as well as Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (Activision). Nintendo Fusion Tour dates run from September 27 to November 11.
Demo kiosks should also be in place in late October or early November.
"So, it's launch day. What does the box look like?"
Here you go. Drool over it, picture it, love it:
As for the box art for Wii games, official art has not yet been provided. However, a few days, a highly official looking box art was posted for Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz on EB Games:
Using what looks to be final artwork and all of the necessary logos, this could be a final Wii box art. Other box arts on the EB Games website seem to be using the same simplistic Wii logo jacket, without using a placeholder message at the bottom of the image.
The above has been confirmed. Twilight Princess and Excite Truck box arts were caught during the North American Wii conference in September, using the same banner and format.
"How much is this all going to cost me?"
MARIOMAN2.0 sent me a very helpful link that allows you to calculate the cost the Wii, games, as well as extra controllers and tax based on your state. It has options for both American and Canadian calculations.
After all of the problems with the link, it seems it can't be posted on NSider. Go to n-sider.com and click Wii FAQ to see it.
“Most importantly, what about the launch games?”
The launch games have been the most confusing to some, so here’s the confirmed list for North America for launch day games. Nintendo announces that their games will cost $50 US. The list from Gamespot:
Excite Truck (Nintendo)
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo)
Wii Sports (Nintendo, included with every system)

"What's the launch window?"
I've answered this question a lot recently. With console launches, companies usually like to reveal "launch window" games instead of "launch day" games. Actual "launch day" lists are usually not revealed until shortly before launch, even though the above titles have been confirmed and more could be added or removed. However, the launch window is a period from launch to a specified date, considered to be period to get the console up and running. Nintendo of America states that the launch window is from launch to March 31, 2007, even though some of the titles below could and will release later. Here's the launch window list from Gamespot:
Nintendo
Battalion Wars II
Big Brain Academy (temporary name)
Excite Truck
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Mario Strikers Charged
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Super Mario Galaxy (temporary name)
WarioWare: Smooth Moves
Wii Sports (bundled with the Wii console)

“Any differences for the Japanese and European launch titles?”
Yes, there are a few differences. Here’s the Japanese launch day list from IGN:
Trauma Center: Second Opinion (Atlus)
Elebits (Konami)
Machi Kuru Domino (Success)
Necro-Nesia (Spike)
Super Monkey Ball (Sega)
Swing Golf Panya (Tecmo)
Wing Island (Hudson)
Kororinpa (Hudson, action-pinball)
