Whens a man a Terrorist and not a freedom fighter???

Well for me it depends entirely on what America decides you are.

In the Afghan war in the 80's The Various rebels where praised as freedom fighters. The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan is Aptly named the Soviet Vietnam for a number of reasons. Not just that it was a Guerilla war but also the circumstances which led to the Invasion.

The Afghan Government requested military intervention from the Soviet Union (like South Vietnam) the Government gave the USSR the full backing of its army (like South Vietnam) also like South Vietnam the Government was undemocratic.

But where the Vietcong(name was a CIA decision) seen as freedom fighters during there struggle no. And when the Soviet backed Regime collapsed the "freedom fighters" took over. Though Its a strange kind of freedom that discriminates against Gender and closed down all schools for females (there weren't many but they where scheduled to grow in number) And this was before the Taliban where most of the "freedom fighters" where united and so gave backing to the new regime.

Then we have Britains war on Terror. Where were America in an almost One hundred year terror war? Backing the otherside. The United States has been the biggest supporer of the IRA financally and to a lesser extent the other Terror groups.

Then particulary in the 80's when the limits on publicity on the Terror groups political wings where enforced. The Americans condemned them for attacking freedom. Freedom? its an odd freedom that tries to blow up the Refinery on Gibraltar that if succesfull would not only kill British servicemen and there families but also hundreds of innocent Gibralterrians(sp?) who weren't British. Infact a Nursery was only down the corner from the fuel and it was a school day.

Or the bombing of a war memorial on remembrence day, a day where the towns veterans, and servicemen and Children from the Cadets and Scouts and guides as young as Seven attend.

Then theres all that mess in South America. But the one that stands out is the Contra's in Nicuagura. Nicursguia was led by a man who was perhaps Mussolini's closest friend. A man who when his country was devastated by Earthquakes decrred that only "Presidential" matierails could be used in rebuilding (ensuring he made a large profit).

But the real Hypocrisy is this, when ousted the American Government funded the Contra's, some where against the regime and feared the Sandanista's. But most where Mercenairies. So not only where the US arming Mercenaires but when the plans flew over Nicuraguia and landed to refuel, They also filled up the now empty cargo space with drugs. Thats right drugs. The CIA allied with drug dealers to use there "facilities" in exchange for shipping drugs into the states.

The army wants me


With the news of war it was finally my time to shine.My Father knew he would not be able to stop me.He knew i would go either way.I knew he didn't want to lose me,but i had no choice I would fight.Dad i exclaimed,I may as well join up,why wait for me to be drafted.My father just looked at the ground."War isn't a game son,people get killed.people will die in front of you.I knew this bu it did not put me off,i would be joining to help people not kill them.I would be a medic.
After the conversation with my father,i walked to the recruitment office in town,i was not the only one there.A large queue had formed and many that where in the crew i knew.My friend Alex Green was near the front of the crew and called me over.Alex looked pleased that war had been declared."isn't this great,were going to fight for our country".Alex's father didn't serve in the Great war so he had not heard as many tales as i had,I knew war would affect us all.
I squeezed behind Alex in the crew ready to enlist in the Army.Many in the queue picked to join the army including Alex,we would all serve in the same regiment together.
As i ran home to tell my father when i would be shipping out to training,i found him sitting in a chair near the fire looking at a box in his hands.I told him i would be serving in the same regiment as him.He smiled and handed me the package,I opened it quickly wondering what it was.To my surprise it was a revolver."That was mine during the Great war,it saved my life many times.I want you to have it" exclaimed my Father.I was shocked and a tear ran down my cheek." I will make you proud Dad".
The next day me and Alex said goodbye to our loved ones as did many at the train station,ready for a journey to the training camp we would be living for the next few month's.
As the train arrived a tall man stood at the platform in a smart uniform.The man had a tidy moustache and glasses.He looked like a nice person,but i was wrong.
As everyone got off the bus the man stood in front of everyone and shouted so loud the windows on the train shivered.He spoke with confidence." I am sergeant Adams,i am your drill instructor and your worst nightmare.By the time you have finished your training you will hate me but you will be perfect soldiers.We march for the camp"
Everyone quickly grabbed their gear and marched towards the camp ready to start training.Its true what they say,preparing for war isn't an easy task.

chapter 3.



The training



As we entered the camp many recruits were hard at work training.Some squads were firing at targets while others ran the obstacle course.It all seemed so strange to us but by the end of the week there would be no problems.
Sergeant Adams showed all the new recruits to our bunks.Everyone was told to pick one,i picked the lower bed of the bunk beds while Alex took the top.We left our stuff on our bunks and were quickly ordered outside.Everyone ran outside and lined up in two rows.The CO of the camp came walking up with sergeant Adams to inspect the new recruits.Everyone was worried that they would be pulled out and inspected by the CO.I was suddenly pulled out by Sergeant Adams by my arm and made to face the Co.He was a Colonel and had served in ww 1,but it didn't show.The colonel wasn't known by his surname,he was always referred to by the colonel.Suddenly sergeant Adams bellowed,"Here is a new recruit for inspection sir,got the spirit of a soldier he has".I tried to stand at attention,but failed quite badly.The colonel spoke with pride and a calm voice."Whats your name son?".I replied quickly."James Holt".The sergeant hit me in the leg with his cane."James Holt sir".Thats better said Adams."Why do you want to join the army" said the colonel."I want to be a medic sir,i want to help the wounded on the battle."The colonel nodded and said"as you wish you are your company's medic.it isn't an easy job so be careful son.".After that he walked off through the camp.Sergeant Adams handed me the medics band and marched us off to give us our equipment and dog tags.
Later that day we started our training and over time and days we were turning into soldiers.I had learned as much as i could to treat wounds and there was little more i could be taught.Weeks passed and near the ending of our training we were put into our platoons with men that had showed leadership skills through training.this would be the day we met our Captain and platoon leaders.
