Apple acts on battery problem

And I got these quotes from an actual newspaper that I was reading this morning.

"Apple Computer Inc. on Thursday recalled 1.8 million Sony-built notebook batteries that could overheat and catch fire, just 10 days after Dell Inc.'s record-setting recall involving the same problem and the same supplier. Apple said it has received nine reports of lithium-ion battery packs overheating"

"Both companies' batteries were made by Sony Energy Devices Corp. of Japan."

"In a statement Sony said the poblems aries 'on rare occasions' when microscopic metal particles in the recalled battery cells hit other parts of the cell and lead to a short circuit"

"Both recalls are expected to cost Sony between $172 million and $278 million."

Looks like Sony is in some deep shit. Discuss.

I hope Sony wheren't planing on adding that batterie to the ps3 (inccase the power went out) or else they'll be a lot of broken ps3's

Litium Ion batteries now a days are very advanced, they can hold a large amount of power x10 more that a regular alkaline batterie, if you dont know how to sucessfully make them.. please dont for the sake of the people. Just a little flaw in the design or make can be disaterous.

Basically the majority of companies that make laptops get their batteries from the same manufacturer because they probally are cheaper. Now I dont know if other laptops like toshibas use the same battery, but if they do, their recall will soon follow. I was basically implying that its all Sony's fault and this setback of around 200 million dollars could have some sort of effect on the development of the PS3.

lol, thanks, and thanks on not PMing me, I've gotten 2 so far, but I know there will be a lot more while I'm gone tomorrow. Oh, did you guys know, I'll be back in my home state of NJ and online on Sunday, so I'll be looking forward to visiting here more often...a lot more often.
