hey guys i just got back from the brawl thing, so things are fresh in my mind, heres a few things i learned from the event...
debunk meta-knight rumors:
a lot of people were afraid that meta-knight would be an over-powered player that could basically own the map with an iron fist, but after having played as him, I'm here to report, that this simply isn't true...
he is a hard character to use, as his movements are flighty and unstable, also being a very light character he has the disadvantage of being knocked out more easily, but he can recover from almost anywhere.
his moves are pretty exciting though and I'm sure, with practice he could be a powerful foe, as it goes with any character.
his tornado attack is quite thrilling, and makes for some nice combos, as with his standard "A" attack he is a guy who really enjoys those combos.
his forward special is interesting, as it is possible to avoid and or counter-attack but it does a nice amount of general damage across the field. ill speak as if you don't know what I'm talking about, his forward special makes him take flight with his sword in front of him. also you can control this for a short period, making him pull some interesting stunts in mid-air. this is also quite fun to do while in mid air, to make an attack coming down, which seems to be quite effective.
his up special is pretty standard, and not very exciting, but it does kind of remind me of marths attack, except marth's attack faces forward, where as meta's faces upward.
i even got to try his smash attack, and actually hit someone with it, which was quite fortunate!
i think you would have to be quite lucky to execute it successfully, if you aren't as lucky as i was, it was reaaaaally dum luck, someone was standing right in front of me when i did it, but that might be because he was chasing the smash ball as well...
thats it for meta, id like to put people at ease about the smash ball..
it is a very interesting addition to the game indeed, for it draws peoples attention and hurdles them all together, which can become quite hectic. its an adrenaline pumper for sure, and although it is likely to show up three or more times in only a 2 minute game, it really adds to the overall action and really its just another attack. some characters are powerful but easy to avoid, and some are impossible to avoid but do less damage, what interest me is not the actual attack, but the part before where everyone is racing to achieve supremacy.
now... link
i have to say he feels very much the same, the only big change was his up special... its still the same, but now you can charge it, and i know people may know that already but it really changes how you use it, and makes it less easy to avoid... whats that? it was already hard to avoid? chances are when you got hit by it, you only got the tail end of it, now the player has power over execution, and can foll the other players into a full blow of his sin attack, which as you know is very deadly...
i was interested in his improved boomerang, but unfortunately it seems just as ineffective.. could be i was using it wrong, or just didn't hit anyone with it, but it seemed to be just as unused as it was before... also i didn't even see his smash attack sorry...
i was not able to use luigi as he is a secret character, however i was able to use olimar who was apparently a default.
one thing that struck me was how quickly he pluck pikmin from the ground, he can have an arsenal of baddies in a couple seconds, and those things are REAL handy to throw at unsuspecting victims.
its just another way of doing little tidbits of damage for that satisfying blow at the end. his up special is strange in the fact that it relies on how many pikmin he has, but the instinct was to always use his standard special so has some henchmen, he was actually very fun to use.
i did use his smash attack a couple times in fact i unlocked ness with it, it is IMPOSSIBLE to avoid damage with it, and even the explosion as the ship comes crashing down i noticed has a VERY wide splash damage, so stand FAAARRR away when you see it... basically you just have to be lucky you don't die here...
i used pokemon trainer once, and it was the only time i lost, he is very fun to use, but difficult to get used to, the option of changing pokemon is actually a distraction, and in the end, i just decided to pick one and stick with it (ivysuar)
theres not much i can say about this character, as he has so many sets of attacks its actually quite ridiculous, but overall he is a fun character to use, and I'm sure somebody could use him as a main, in fact i guarantee it, he is quite powerful in fact...
wario next, he was the strangest character to use, but very fun. his motorcycle attack is quite good for dealing damage to everyone on the field, but when they say "DON'T use it as warioman" they REALLY mean it... i actually died as warioman, i accidentally pressed forward while executing an attack, and it killed me INSTINTLY! it is so quick i actually went right across bridge of eldin, in ONE SECOND BEEOOW! (jerry jackson reference)
his down special is quite pathetic really, you are going to have to be right near a player before it does any good, maybe i didn't save it up enough, but the range seemed very small....
his up special is nothing exciting, but it could probably do some heavy damage in the wrong hands.
and thus i leave the best for last, king dedede...
i know people were unexcited about this character... some people like him some don't, but i have to say this was my favorite character...
what he lacks in speed he makes up for BIG time in weight, i was at about 230% before i finally got knocked out.
i finally got to see his mechanized hammer in action, and it is really cool. it is however quite difficult to catch someone with it, as it does more damage the more you charge it up (obviously) however the temptation is to charge it up to full blast, when in fact if used in short bursts it does an impressive amount of damage, and becomes king dedede's fastest attack.
his up special is really fun to use, as you can control it with ease, it has a HUGE splash damage, so even if someone sees it coming, the stars that come flying out, foil their plan to grab or attack...
also if you hit someone with this, it does K.O.
his standard special is very strange. its the same as kirby's except he lacks the ability to absorb power... but i did notice something, i could move around easily with someone in my mouth! did anyone ever try sucking someone with kirby and jumping off the level? and then with the ability to fly you could recover while your helpless victim sleeps with the fishes?
yeah, well king dedede can fly to, and with his ridiculous height flying up special he could easily recover, maybe even more so then kirby. this attack is going to be DEADLY...
finally his ability to throw waddle dees, is unimpressive, but helpful in the end, as it keeps players away from you.
as for his smash attack, its not as impressive as some other MEGA attacks that other show-boating characters might boast, but it is helpful, and it can still K.O. quite a lot.
i played a few levels, i have to say though my favorite? was a player made one... interesting eh?
there you have it, i think ill be good until the game comes out, hopefully i can finally relax a little, and focus on other things, i hope i answered peoples questions
