So as many of you have already heard and even experienced first hand, many Wii kiosks are already available at many Gamestops and EB games. Today me and Nathan, your fellow moderator in the Wii Together forum, went to our local Gamestop and tried the Wii for ourselves.
As expected the only game they had available was ExciteTruck, but Just having the Wii remote in our hands and trying the system out was a good experience alone. ExciteTruck handles well, although I'll admit, has a bit of a learning curve. (The controls feel a bit overly sensitive at first.) But fun? Yes, it was definitely that. The Remote is perfect, Not too small and not too big. It's nice, sleek, and it'll feel great just to hold it in your hands. The Wii itself is naturally smaller than most people expect it to be and seeing it standing there in the Blue light and its own glossy white coat is great.
But even more important than that to me was not the game or the fact that I was playing a "next gen console". What I felt good about was the reaction. Many people walked by the Window in Gamestop curious about just what we were playing. It felt nice as I could sense people of all ages walking by and stopping to see this thing called Wii. And doing all with a look of serious interest on their faces. A couple of people that were in Gamestop actually stopped by us and said comments like "Oh wow look, the Wii's here", "It's smaller than I thought", "How does it feel?" and in no time at all a sort-of line formed around the Wii
In the end I walked away proud, of all things, of Nintendo and the Wii. Though it may seem to some that Nintendo is lagging in the advertising department, I see that their plan is far better than any 30 second TV commercial could do. Having Wii out and available for people to watch, play, and feel is a brilliant move on its own. So as the PS3 commercials and the Hype rolls on, The Wii is still succeeding on a different level. Which is what Nintendo wanted to since the beginning.
Only about 6 days remain and I can't wait to get the Wii in my home, in my living room, and with my family. Not judging it by what I saw today alone, but by the potential and faith I see in this tiny little sleek white system.
Note that I didn't take pictures or snapshots of us with the Wii, but Since the Wii's release is so imminent and Wii kiosks are already appearing in many, many areas, I feel that in no time at all you will be able to see it for yourself and me showing you my time with the Wii is not as a big a deal as you trying it for yourself is. The time to see the Wii as a distant oasis in a desert is passed. It's here and it's time for you all to go out and experience it yourselves.
