I mean for some reason people hold anime in a completely different genre as a cartoon. They are pretty much the same just japanese with there culture mixed in. Is it because of the culture? The art style? Or do people just like the idea of thinking they're different and cool watching it? I mean I like some animes, they are generally deeper than an american cartoon, but they're still pretty much the same. A general anime episode is terrible compared to an american cartoon but movies are generally better. I dont know what all the fuss is about. I'm no way an anime hater, I was wondering what makes peopel drawn to anime more than any other cartoon form of media.
(Wow a serious topic from me)

Most non japanese shows don't look very good, but there are a few western shows that are on par with everything else, venture brothers, metalocalypse, the boondocks,i'm sure i'm forgetting some.
but there are also alot of anime shows that aren't very detailed, kodocha, gurren largen, dragonball, and everything that shonen jump throws at us.
theres also the fact that barely any american shows are episodic, which means that you have to watch the episodes in order to understand it,some animaters think that it is a lazy way of making a series if you don't have to worry about continuity.

I guess thats a factor, though some american shows make references to it. American shows have more action

The more action oriented shows generally have more fighting and less talking. I dont know. But when anime does have fighting its more over the top and exciting.

No, what I mean is anime is higher up in peoples minds than normal cartoons are, just because its japafuckingnese. They probably like our cartoons more.

It's the other way around really, some people seem to hate anime simply because its not "american" enough, some people need to open there minds and stop being so fucking stupid.
example
friend: what the hell are you watching?!
me: its just some show called fruits basket
Friend: why would you watch something that gay?!
me: you used to watch dbz all the time remember?
Friend: yeah but i was like, seven back then

I think American Cartoons are funnier, and usually have a it's own style, but I don't think Japenese Anime is awesome. Most of it is infact based on Manga, which I think is a dumb idea, cause then there is so much filler. But both are only as good as the writers, so I show no preference.

I guess. I wish anime's learned that people want fighting not talking.

Cartoon wise you fuckin' ass. I mean like movie wise I like a good story. And mindless action it seems that your half wit brain can only take the latter.

Don't begin a sentence on 'and' and don't make silly insulting assumptions.

a good anime needs to have both a good driven story and decent action with a bare minimum of long dialouges about a characters past or something. and no anime can achieve this, its mainly too much of one of those problems........newish animes seem to mainly focus on the sheer randomness of the producers

New anime seems to be parodying other anime.
Older anime tends to be more of the action orientated, some amount of decent backstory, but newer ones (really, just current ones) seem to be more comedy.
