Ps1 games on Ps2 Memory Card Help!!

Yesterday, I wanted to play some Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 for the Ps1. I don't have a Ps1 so I played it on my Ps2. I got unlocked a couple things and I tried to save it. When I tried it said there was no memory card in. I thought it was just the game so I put in Metal Gear Solid; VR Missions. Again, I unlock a couple things and try to save it. It ways there's no memory card. I looked it up and I think it can only save on a Ps1 memory card. Could someone please explain this, and tell me how I save it on my Ps2?!

Is it a PS2 Memory Card, or a PS1 Memory Card your saving it on? Some PS1 Memory Card's aren't able too be saved on with PS2. If it's a PS2 Memory Card, then it could be corrupted.
