I still don't label it an FPS.
But yea, it's not they hype, my friend, (even though there practically was none).
It's because the Metroid Games have always been very solid and fun Adventure games. When Retro Studios managed to fluidly convert it from a side scrolling adventure to a 3D First Person game, it came as a great surprise. And to this day is marked one of the best games made.
The sequals, though not having that same impact as the first, are still really entertaining and long adventure games that can do it all while keeping the feel of a Metroid title.
Now this added on to the fact that with the Wii you can finally navigate Samus Aran more fluidly than you ever could before makes the third Prime game a game to be played.
Basically there's no reason to get it for the "hype" or the fact that it has good controls. The game is good because it retains the awesome feel of the Previous Metroid games, both 2D and 3D, and on top of that is punctuated with a more epic story, better Graphics, and smooth Control.
Play Prime 3 with that mindset and you'll find that the game actually surprises pleasantly.

i'd love to join this club!
I'm just getting into metroid, so I haven't played all the games yet. Metroid Prime 3 is my favorite, Super Metroid is second, but I haven't played alot of it yet..
What are your favorites?

Eh, metroid fusion will remain second to none, metroid game-wise.

That's a really f'n good lawyer.
EDIT: Me No like double posting so... Do you think they'll ever make a new 2D Metroid. Metroid was extremely good in 2D, and has Samus ever had a bad game? Certainly not a 2D one.
