Recently, I had to write a Persuasive Essay for School. I decided to do around a subject that i love so I, of course, did it around video games. Again, This was made for school so if you see some weird ways I wrote, I had to do it. Also, I had to explain what Tp and OoT are at the beginning because they don't know that.
You feel your sweat covered hands aching from the hard labor you just did. You see a horrid looking monster ahead of you so you put your hands on your sword that passed the test of time. You walk up to “it” and feel the heat bristle off of its face. You swing your sword into its abdomen area and do a flip over it. You than kick it on the ground with your torn shoes. You defeated it! This is just some of the fast paced action in two similar games. One of those games is called The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and the other is called The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. They’re both critically acclaimed adventure games in the Zelda legacy. Ocarina of Time came out on the Nintendo 64 many years ago and many people called it the best game ever developed. It stayed in the majority of people’s minds as that for many years, but now that may change. Ten years later (now) the Wii, a motion sensitive system made by Nintendo, released, and it’s got the next installment in this legendary series. The new game is called The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
Much debate centers around which game is better and no one has had the answer, until now. I think Twilight Princess is a better game than Ocarina of Time, but barely. I think this for of four big reasons. It is a great introduction to the Wii’s new controls, it has brilliant music, it has stunning game play that is so good I usually don’t want to put the controller down, and it is one of the longest games I have ever played, yet every hour I play it, it seems fresh and new.
The first reason I think Twilight Princess is better than Ocarina of Time is because it is a great introduction to the Wii, a brand new system. The Wii changed the way millions of people thought of videogames by totally revamping the controls. Although this is mainly a good thing, some people do get confused by the new controls that make you actually swing the controller to get a response on the screen. But the people who bought Twilight Princess with their Wii did not have to fear that they would be scratching their sweat covered head with their long, thin fingers in confusion. Twilight Princess comes with a long, intricate tutorial! I remember the first time I played the Wii. I had been eagerly anticipating touching that little white controller that was as small as a Television remote. I imagined myself feeling like I was floating on a cloud to heaven the first time I touched it. I was very naïve and inpatient. I skipped the tutorial because I thought I could handle it and consequently, I died in the game right away. I later went back to the tutorial and when I played that same level again, I was an expert at it! This proves that the tutorial is vital to have a fun-filled experience.
The second reason I think Twilight Princess is better than Ocarina of Time is that it has brilliant music. It literally was music to my ears and I think that the person that composed it is a genius. I have caught myself many times just standing still in the middle of the game to listen to the melodies. This proves that a good soundtrack is essential to a good game. If a soundtrack is good, it can mesmerize a player into playing more. If there is bad music, or worse, no music, you don’t feel compelled to keep playing. Sixty percent of websites have commended Twilight Princess on its great music.
The third reason I think Twilight Princess is better than Ocarina of Time is that Twilight Princess has stunning game play. It is not hard to do a move with your sword that you would never even consider doing in real life. However, it is not easy to do. For example, in the game I can do a roll on the ground, jump in the air, and hit my enemy by pressing “A”, lifting the controller, and swinging the controller. It is so good that I don’t want to put the controller down. IGN, a videogame website, stated, “We have nothing but praise for the Wii controls…. Gesturing with the Wii remote, you can easily and effortlessly swing your hero’s sword.” This shows that it is easy and fun to do brutal attacks. As you progress through the game, you meet mystical wolves who teach you new moves that you can master. The move is usually a devastating attack to add to your arsenal. This adds a twist to the game play, but it also makes it easier and more fun to kill your enemy. It is a fact that most people in the world today do not get enough exercise. With the Wii’s new and innovative motion sensors, you actually swing the sword or jump. As might be expected, people playing this get exercise and have fun at the same time. This shows that the game play is fun, easy, and even healthy. Some games might have a good tutorial, or maybe jaw droopingly beautiful music, but you want to stop playing them because of bad game play. This game differs from those games because it keeps you in its world with great game play.
My fourth and final reason I think Twilight Princess is better than Ocarina of Time is that it is extremely long, yet not boring. While Ocarina of Time was long it didn’t have the free roaming “you choose what you do next feel” that Twilight Princess has. The main game is easily more than forty hours of fun. However, they add something new to make you want to keep on playing. One hour you’re sumo wrestling monsters with iron boots and the next hour you’re throwing a ball that is bigger than a wrecking ball at a larger-than-life enemy. What I just described is just the main game. There are another ten hours of game time doing side quests .Gamepro, a video game magazine, said, “First off, let me begin by stating that after 20-plus hours of playing The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, I have not beaten the game……..I'm going to guesstimate that I have another 10 to 20 hours of the main story and countless hours of side quests left.” This shows that even gaming experts can not beat it very fast. This game throws something new at you around every corner. The story is the same deal. It has your arch nemeses, Gannon, from the previous games, but it also has brand new bosses and foes. Nintendo did the best they could to provide a rich, long, imaginative, and new experience, while sticking to the roots of this series. They definitely achieved that.
The idea that Ocarina of Time is better than Twilight Princess does deserve some merit. It won game of the year almost everywhere. However, so did Twilight Princess. In a recent analysis that I made showed that out Twilight Princess won game of the year 75% of the time. There was really only one game released this year that came even close to matching the superiority of this game and Twilight Princess beat it many times. Ocarina of Time changed the way people looked at adventure games. On the other hand, Twilight Princess revamped the way people looked at games altogether.
Which is better, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess or The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time? That question has lasted through-out time, but I think I finally have an answer. I have beaten both games and after long consideration I have decided that, even though I would give both games a ten out of ten, Twilight Princess is better but barely. I think this because it first sucks you into the Zelda world with a great tutorial. Than, it keeps you in there with amazing music that just gets better as you progress threw the game. Next, you don’t want to leave because the game play is so good. Finally, it’s so long that you can’t leave! Even though Twilight Princess is a better game in my opinion, I beg of you! Please buy both games! They are both inexpensive. If you can only buy one, buy Twilight Princess, because it is better. But they are both very good! So, please stop reading this right now, stand up, and buy a copy of these groundbreaking games!
