Developers are obviously video gamers, otherwise they would not create them, correct? Well why dont they use thir own knowledge and listen to the fans.
What I mean by this is that games are constantly being cranked out, and 90 percent of them are mere average rental crap or just terrible.
So here's my guides for a perfect video game experience.
Number 1. Good visuals, im not a graphics over gameplay person but its nice to look at something pretty, though I dont like things too realistic im more into fantasy type visuals, but dont use alot of visual power, i'll explain why later.
Number 2. Story, most video games have too much story or not enough, is it so hard to balance? Dont make a game where you walk 5 steps and theres a cutscene and dont make a game where the only cut scenes are the start and end. The best story-driven games are told through people you meet in the game or without overuse of cutscene, zelda games generally tell all the story and backstory with limeted cutscenes because of the world you play in is perfectly balanced.
3. And i'll explain what I mean about graphics now. Nice visuals are great...sometimes. When a games graphics are immense it normally means the game must be shorter because all the power of the system is going into every detail and cant seem to make a game last for more than 6-10 hours, just look at the original gears of war amazing viuals but very very short, if it was toned down just slightly atleast 2 hours could be crammed into it.
4. Art over realism, to me this is a big thing. Now, heavy rain comming soon looks amazing and almost life like, but the thing about that is, it makes it somewhat dull, yet you take a current gen game like twilight princess, not as graphically amazing but the art is better so the world seems more fantastical and prettier to look it, hell look at bioshock immense visuals and a good art style because the characters didnt look totally realistic.
5. Menus and gameplay, most games now use stupidly over complicated menus where its unclear to access what you need to. And also the controls seemed tacked-on in this day and age, they make the visuals and then just program some dumb-ass control schemes.
6. As good single player as there is multi-player, most games these days are all about the multi player and not single player. People forget about the single player game and go onto the multiplayer. I know people who got halo 3, played 1 or 2 levels and only ever put it in now so they can play online. I love playing medal of honour heroes 2 on the wii online, but ive only touched the single player once...why? Because developers dont make it interesting anymore.
7. Be more original, games these days are either, rpgs with boys that look like girls, shooters in ww2 or in the future or fighting games that are almost pornographic. Jesus christ people there are so many things that could be explored but its normally always stuck to these genres, somebody apart from nintendo need to go out and make a decent platformer, seriously, mario galaxy is excellent, but nintendo are the only people willing to make those games now.
I'm sorry about me rambling on, some will disagree, if so post why here. Does anybody agree with me though, maybe add some comments on other areas that need to be improved.
I've noticed I used zelda alot for examples but I think the video games are near-perfect, despite some repetetiveness.
WOW A SERIOUS POST.
