My house was nearly hit by a tornado a few years ago. Places only a mile or two away were completely demolished.
This resulted in a horrible fear of tornadoes for several years of my life. For a year or two, I slept in the living room, because it's right next to the basement, where I could flee if a tornado were to ever come.
Looking back now, it was kind of pathetic.
